Rivers, lakes, creeks, lagoons & wilderness. Mayfly hatches, beetles, grasshoppers, ants. Walking, wading, drifting. Polaroiding & sight fishing to rising, tailing & cruising fish is a favourite! Discover the secrets!

Whether you’re an accomplished angler, or starting your journey into the world of fly fishing, our team of guides are here to help you enjoy an unforgettable trout fishing and outdoors experience in Tasmania.

A Fly Fishing Tour

Throughout the day, plenty of coaching is included as required. You will learn or improve how to see the fish, whether they are visible in the water, or, if not visible, then evidence that a fish is there, by what the water is doing on the surface. And if there is no visible activity, you will learn how to identify likely spots where trout may be. Fly fishing is a very active method of fishing. It involves working out what the fish are eating, so learning how to identify that, be it insects landing on the water, or coming up from the river and lake bed and weeds, and then selecting the right fly to fool the fish. Different weather, temperatures, cloud cover, etc., all determine what the insects do, and impact on how the trout behave.

You will learn or improve how to cast your fly so you present the fly as an insect on the water, how to actively keep in touch with your fly, and recognise when a fish takes it, because the take can be so delicate and gentle that you may not even feel it at first! You will learn how to set the hook so the fish stays on, how to handle the rod and how to bring the fish to hand.

It can be a challenge pulling all that together at the same time! It’s a very exciting way to fish.

Lures & Natural Bait Fishing Methods

We do have other methods that don’t require such a learning curve. Talk to us about the experience you would like and we can help.
